Supporting innovation conversations through data visualisation
RMIT University's Research & Innovation portfolio approached Miek to create a digital tool for supporting conversations around the University's proposed 'Capability Platforms'.
RMIT had developed a series of metrics covering multiple facets, and needed to find an elegant way to present the information, making it accessible during workshops and one-on-one convrsations.
Through a series of workshops and protoypes working closely with the Univerity's analysts, we developed a visualisation that manages to communicate a lot very quickly through colour and shape, allowing people to browse through large collections of proposed platforms at once, quickly noticing differences and similarities between them.
Delivered as a lightweight web application using Angular and D3 thanks to a partnership with the incredible Ash Gibson at Smartface, the final tool targeted smartphones and iPads and allows for easy exploration and quick drilling into the details. The tool has allowed the University to successfully engage collaborators in more meaningful conversations.
